How long does it take for your business to see results from social media?
47 days and 14 hours! Bad jokes aside, the answer is unfortunately dependent upon many variables. I realize 'it depends' is a wholly unsatisfactory answer, so let me give you some guidance based on my 7 years of experience in digital marketing:
1. Think of the first few months as a training program to get your social media accounts and online presence into shape before you start to invest significant funds in targeted advertising and really start competing in the market. If value isn’t a concern, you can just throw lots of money on targeted advertising right away and you’ll get some results — but it will be a highly inefficient way to spend and you, a brilliant businessperson, don’t want to do that.
The first few months should be devoted to developing a digital marketing strategy and attractive content, carrying out an iterative testing process and paying close attention to analytics so you can evaluate how to get the best MROI and position your business for future digital marketing success.

2. It may sound obvious, but it’s very difficult to achieve ambitious digital marketing goals without investing in digital marketing. It’s critical to have an expert managing your digital marketing, and experts don’t come cheap. The value you get from your investment in paid advertisements is highly dependent upon the quality of your social media manager. Put an expert in place and you’ll more than recover the costs through more efficient ads — lower CPC, lower CPL and greater sales per lead.

3. You will need to invest a reasonable amount in targeted advertising. Social media algorithms favor advertisers with greater budgets, so the more you spend, the more value you’ll get out of each dollar (up to a point that, unless you’re a billion dollar business or have an extremely small target audience, you’re unlikely to reach).

4. The quality leads will come — make sure you’re ready to maximize the value you get out of them. Before investing big bucks in targeted advertising, get your online presence in tip-top shape. Your website/app should be attractive, flawless, optimized for all devices and easy to use. Your sales department should be trained to understand the needs of the buyer personas your digital marketing campaign will attract.

Keep this advice in mind when you choose a digital marketing specialist and you’re more likely to be happy with the results :)
